November Schedule

We have our November calendar ready for publication at last.  We might be a little slow, but we're also posting December's calendar because schedules are starting to fill up fast.  Hopefully you'll find some classes you'd like to take.  Don't forget to sign up ahead of time by calling the store or dropping by.  If you pay before the day of the class, you'll receive a 10% discount on any purchases you make the day of the class.

Important dates:  We will be closed November 28 for Thanksgiving and Hanukkah, December 25 for Christmas, and December 30, 31, January 1,2 for inventory.  We will close at 2 pm on the day before Thanksgiving and the day before Christmas.

Sale : We have fabulous Black Friday specials on November 29 and 30.  You won't want to miss these.

Another Sale: Once again, inventory is coming and we don't don't know how to count too high.  To make our lives easier, won't you please come in and save some money?  There will be some real deals here.  Details will follow in another post.

And now for the class details.

  • November 7 - Inchie Cards.  We'll be using Inchie Arts products to create beautiful faux tiles which we'll incorporate into cards.  You'll love them.
  • November 16 - Birdhouse Explode Box.  You may have seen the wedding cake explode box or the teacup explode box we've done previously.  If so, you'll LOVE the birdhouse.  For this class you'll need a paper cutter capable of cutting 12" paper, and you'll need to let us know if you'd like to use the same paper Susan used or choose your own.
  • November 19 - Stampscapes.  This class will do a little review of stampscape techniques and will then focus on some new techniques featuring light sources and adding additional colors.
  • November 21 - Everyone loves the layered poinsettias we have on the wall and we are frequently asked to demonstrate.  We will teach you to make one of these beautiful flowers with some stamping, cutting, embossing, and gluing.  When you sign up for this class, please specify if you would like to make the red or the white poinsettia.
  • December 3 - Pop-Up Cards.  We'll be using the Sizzix house die to make cute Gingerbread house cards.
  • December 5 - Stamping on Candles.  Learn to put stamped and colored images on candles.  These make great gifts or holiday decorations.  For this class you will need to bring three white (or ivory) unscented pillar candles either 3" or 6" high.
  • December 10 - Tags.  Use stamps, die-cuts, and embossing techniques to make 10 lovely gift tags. This is always a popular class and just in time for Christmas.
  • December 14 - Stencil Class.  This class is a repeat of the peacock cards we did in July.  All spaces filled quickly and those who could not get into the class asked for a repeat performance.  Well, here it is!
  • December 28 - BONUS! Make 'N Take - We're doing an extra Make 'N Take!!  Come in anytime between 10 and 4 and have some fun.  No registration required.  And yes, we're still having our Make 'N Take on January 4th.

Nest News

In our Tuesday, October 29 class we will be making a stuff-it box using the Graphic 45 Typography papers. We posted a picture of the box previously, but we have now added a folded book inside the box. This box is a lot of fun to make and can be used in so many ways.

This is the stuff-it box (red) with the fold-out book which fits inside.

Although we don't have our entire schedule for November completed yet, we have bits and pieces of it done so we'll give you a head's up on classes that are already set.  The Christmas Card Class will be a little earlier in November due to Thanksgiving, so make your reservations now for Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, November 12, 13, or 14th.  Below is the card we will be making.

The November stencil class will be held on Saturday, November 9th and will feature a chickadee stencil. We will be using three different techniques, and the $20 class fee includes the stencil.

After two very popular Explode Box classes (the teacup and the wedding cake), Susan has outdone herself and has produced and even bigger box containing a beautiful winter birdhouse.  We will be offering a class on this birdhouse and box on Saturday, November 16th at 10:30.

                 Box closed                                                                Box opened

We hope to have the completed calendar available by the end of the week and there will be more details then, but feel free to call and reserve a spot in any of the above classes.

News From the Nest

Our October 29th class, the TY-POG-RA-PHY Stuff-It Box, features a box kit from Stacy Stamps (Some of you might remember it from the class Stacy taught.) and uses the TY-POG-RA-PHY paper line from Graphic 45.  The classes are at 10:30 and 6:30 and the cost is only $15.  For this class you will need a paper cutter (one that can cut 12" pieces of paper) and either a roll of Miracle Tape or a roll of Red Line Tape.  Both are available for sale if you need to purchase one.  Below are photos of the finished box.

OTHER NEWS:

  • We've received some new stamps from Danami that are really cute!  There are a number of stamps featuring their little chickies doing things like running, camping, playing hockey, doing construction, and dressing like pumpkins.  We also got a new selection of Hanukkah stamps.
  • Our October Christmas card uses a stamp called Wiseman (R095) from Stampendous. Unfortunately, after we designed and advertised the card, we tried to order additional stamps only to find that the design has been discontinued.  If anyone has this stamp and would be interested in selling it back to the store, please give us a call.

  • We were lucky enough to receive some jack-o-lantern face dies as a bonus on our last order from Memory Box, so we'd like to pass that bonus on to you.  If you purchase the Great Pumpkin Die, you will receive a free jack-o-lantern die.

Stampscapes

I stayed up all night to see where the sun went.  Then it dawned on me.

Thursday, October 17 is our first Stampscapes class in quite a while.  We've been playing around with quite a number of amazing techniques that we think you'll love.  The whole concept of Stampscapes stamps is different.  They're designed to meld together to form complete outdoor scenes, and while some scenes are monochromatic, there are several methods of adding color to your design.  We are going to introduce you to these stamps with a couple of the basic methods of scene building and background color.  Where you go from there is limited only by your imagination.  In this class, you will have the opportunity to play with a variety of stamps and color combinations and will leave with three finished cards and lots of ideas.

Below are samples of the stamps and colors we will be using.

Many of you are familiar with the House Mouse stamps from Stampendous.  You may have seen their booth at the Big E.  We have received a number of really cute designs for both fall and Christmas that you won't want to miss.  Below are samples of some of the cards you can make.

We showed you the first two Make 'N Take cards in the last post, so here are the other two cards.  Drop by on Saturday to make some cards and see our NEW, BIGGER store!  (We've gained about 10 square feet by taking out an old doorway.)
